Late in the morning the GC32 Alps Challenge Traunsee got underway on Lake Traunsee in beautiful sunshine and a light breeze. In these conditions three of the scheduled five races was sailed and NORAUTO Racing, with Kiwi former Match Racing World Champion Adam Minoprio was the star performer. The two-time GC32 champion here in Traunsee won two races and come second in the third.

Soon after, the conditions built and the spectators were able to see foiling GC32 catamarans get airborne.

Despite the change in conditions, Minoprio put in another top performance, adding two more wins to his scoreline to end the day with a six point lead over Flavio Marazzi’s ARMIN STROM Sailing Team in second.

“We had tough conditions today,” said a satisfied Minoprio. “When the breeze picked up we had some good wind and foiling really made fun. I hope for more wind tomorrow.”

Sadly the first day of racing didn’t go according to plan for PROFS I Youth America’s Cup – Team Austria. The team of skipper Max Trippolt was regularly in touch with the other GC32, but at the end of day one, the Austria youth tema had to be content with fourth place.

“In general we are too inexperienced, but we have seen that we are close to the others when there’s a light breeze. In those conditions we want to get second place tomorrow“, commented Trippolt.

On Friday more fleet races are scheduled, before match racing for the €30,000 prize purse starts on Saturday.
