Alinghi Red Bull Racing – SUI 8

One of the world’s longest stablished sailing teams, Ernesto Bertarelli’s Alinghi is best known for winning the America’s Cup in 2003 and then successfully defending it four years later in Valencia. But the team’s roots were established long before with Bertarelli competing in his first Bol d’Or on Lake Geneva in 1994 and winning Switzerland’s top sailing competition outright six years later.

Subsequently the Swiss team’s record on the Extreme Sailing Series was unparalleled, winning it four times, including its last season in 2018. This success they have extended into the GC32 Racing Tour, winning outright in 2019, again in 2021 and picking up the GC32 World Championship title in 2019 too.

Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s personnel is bristling with experience from Team Director, Pierre-Yves Jorand, who has been with Bertarelli from the outset of his competitive sailing career.

This year, to help with their America’s Cup training, to keep race fit, to help nurture new Swiss sailing talent and develop their two boat development program, Alinghi Red Bull Racing is fielding two boats, SUI 8 and SUI 15, on the GC32 Racing Tour.

SUI 8 is skippered (as with past Alinghi campaigned) by Arnaud Psarofaghis (although for the GC32 Lagos Cup, he transferred to SUI 15). In the crew are: French tactician and 470 Olympic medallist Nicolas Charbonnier, the highly experienced Yves Detrey plus Bryan Mettraux and Arthur Cevey with former Olympic 470 and Nacra 17 sailor Matias Buhler as back-up.
